DAY 18: Denizkent – ​​Biga (Turkey)




Day 18 of my journey through Turkey—my 66th birthday. I spent the night camping on the coast in Denizkent and woke up inside my tent.

Although I heard dogs barking and people talking during the night, the morning arrived without any real issues.


My tent was soaked with night dew.


The humidity made it feel quite cold.


It’s a shame there’s no shower, but I’m grateful for the zero-cost accommodation.


I might encounter situations like this again further down the road.


I set off at 7:40 AM.


While packing up the tent, I was swarmed by a massive cloud of mosquitoes.


On the way to today’s destination, Biga, I passed through several small settlements and a few gas stations.


As usual, my diet consists of nuts, dried fruit, bananas, mandarin oranges, croissants, and the like.


No matter where I am in the world, I’m always eating nuts and dried fruit! (lol)



My first break was on a bench at a bus stop.




This area is a rice-growing region—perhaps the harvest is just around the corner?




I arrived in the town of Biga around 1:00 PM.




Still about 5 kilometers to the town center. It’s sunny and hot.


Ordering some *pide* (Turkish flatbread) to go.




At 2:00 PM, after running 26.7 kilometers, I arrived at my hotel in Biga, just in time for check-in.


The route took me slightly inland, where I faced a series of long, gradual climbs over four small hills, each about 200 meters high.


Biga turns out to be a fairly large town.


Tonight, I get to take a shower and sleep in a room with a roof, a ceiling, and walls. Just that alone makes for a happy birthday!

DAY 37 Taoyuan International Airport-KIX

On the morning of my return home, I packed up my tent and packed my bags.  Afterward, Kanae and I had a lively conversation about our trip, and Miyuki arrived.   We walked through the shopping district again and even Miyuki bought some souvenirs, and finally, just before 10:00 AM, Uber car arrived.  I said goodbye to everyone and headed to the airport.  With some time before departure, I wandered around the airport, reminiscing about my fun days in Taiwan and coming up with various plans for when I return to Japan.  I checked in just after 1:00 PM and boarded AirAsia flight D3778 just after 3:00 PM.  How fast! DAY 1 Changi Airport to Singapore City

I arrived just before 1 AM, but wandered around looking for a place to sleep. I don't like pushing a trolley loaded with a buggy and a 90-liter duffel bag. The area behind the elevator on the second floor seemed quiet, so I decided to sleep there on a aluminum sheet. Even though it was quiet, the lights were on all night and the announcements were loud. I woke up at 4 AM and started PC work. The airport was a little chilly because of the air conditioning. I bought 1.5 liters of water, 500ml of orange juice, and two croissants at a convenience store for 1,400 Japanese yen!? Singapore is said to be one of the most expensive countries in the world. It must be even more expensive because it's an airport. I finished blogging and other work until 7 AM, and as it began to get light, I assembled my buggy and left just after 8 AM.
