DAY 12: Gorukle – Karacabey (Turkey)




Woke up at 4:30 AM.


Planned to cover the approximately 30-kilometer stretch from Gürikre to Karacabey.


The weather is mostly cloudy, with rain expected starting tonight. Temperatures range from 11°C to 15°C.


From here on, until reaching Bandırma, there is a stretch with no accommodation—or rather, only hotels that exceed my budget.


Tonight, I plan to camp—my first time setting up a tent in Turkey.


Started at 7:40 AM.


I am incredibly happy and grateful that it isn’t raining.




The D200 highway remains a stressful route, but that’s to be expected when traveling through densely populated areas.


Once I cleared the city of Bursa, the traffic finally began to thin out.


However, that also meant fewer towns, with little more than the occasional gas station along the road.


Today, I didn’t come across any supermarkets like A101 or BIM along the highway.


I only stopped once for a quick break, remaining standing the whole time.


My only shopping stop was at a gas station two kilometers before the campsite.


The area is defined by vast, open farmland, with Lake Uluabat lying to the south of the road.





Arrived at the campsite just before 2:00 PM.




I saw an email address posted at the gate and sent a message; a young man soon emerged from one of the bungalows.


It seems he is the manager’s son.


The cost is 1,000 Lira (approx. 3,000 JPY) per site. Electricity is available, but the cable is too short, so I have to charge my devices while standing there holding them.




There’s a communal kitchen, as well as toilets and showers, so I have everything I need.





Since it’s right next to the D200, there is quite a bit of traffic noise.


Set up my tent—my first time camping in a while, and my first time doing so in Turkey.




Rain is forecast for tonight. I might end up having to pack up a wet tent tomorrow morning.


Tomorrow, I’ll be traveling through another stretch with no accommodation.


Well, tomorrow is another day—I’ll see what happens when I get there. Let’s enjoy a bit of spontaneity for a change.

DAY 37 Taoyuan International Airport-KIX

On the morning of my return home, I packed up my tent and packed my bags.  Afterward, Kanae and I had a lively conversation about our trip, and Miyuki arrived.   We walked through the shopping district again and even Miyuki bought some souvenirs, and finally, just before 10:00 AM, Uber car arrived.  I said goodbye to everyone and headed to the airport.  With some time before departure, I wandered around the airport, reminiscing about my fun days in Taiwan and coming up with various plans for when I return to Japan.  I checked in just after 1:00 PM and boarded AirAsia flight D3778 just after 3:00 PM.  How fast! DAY 37 George Town (Malaysia)

In the morning, while it was still cool and there were few people, I strolled around Georgetown. I saw street art, visited mosques and temples, bought a tart, and returned to the hotel. As expected, being a tourist destination, there were many tourists here and there. It seems that Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and George Town are the most popular tourist spots in Malaysia. It felt like a considerable number of tourists were flocking here not only from other Asian countries but also from Western countries. There were also many cafes and restaurants catering to tourists. Nevertheless, thanks to its tourist attractions, the city was vibrant and stimulating. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, there are buildings that exuded a sense of history, as well as many colorful houses and shops that we wouldn't see in Japan.
