DAY 17: Bandırma – Denizkent (Turkey)




On Day 17, I woke up before 5:00 AM.


The weather is great again today. My route takes me from Bandırma to a place called Denizkent—a distance of just over 40 kilometers.


It has already been 20 days since I left Kansai International Airport.


Heading south from Çanakkale; I suppose the area around İzmir marks the halfway point.


With a smile on my face and safety as my top priority, I’ll keep moving along at a steady, relaxed pace.


I set off from my hotel in Bandırma at 7:30 AM.


After navigating the hilly city streets, I reached the D200 highway. Traffic was heavy at first, but it soon quieted down.


I took my first break after running 15 kilometers.




It looked like a bus stop, but there was nowhere to sit.


The temperature began to rise quickly.


It’s another perfectly clear day with a brilliant, expansive blue sky. It’s over 20°C—warm enough to feel hot.




The landscape features wind turbines and vast fields, with stunning views of the Sea of ​​Marmara.






Someone from what appeared to be a factory called out to me, and we took a photo together against the backdrop of the blue sky.




An elderly man selling vegetables along the D200 insisted I take a pumpkin.




I ended up giving it to the owner of a general store in Denizkent later on.


There were hardly any towns along the 44.2-kilometer stretch to Denizkent.


I arrived in Denizkent around 5:00 PM.


I had heard there was a motel near the coast, but it was closed for the off-season.


The owner of "Elf Market"—a local general store—kindly made a phone call to check for me.


A dog belonging to the shop was lounging nearby.




I asked at another café—which was open—if I could camp nearby.




They told me I could pitch my tent anywhere, so I set up camp on a grassy patch in a park.


I was shocked by the sheer number of mosquitoes! I hadn't brought any mosquito coils, assuming it would be too cold for them by now. My final run at age 65—clocking in at 44.2 km. Looking forward to keeping at it and having fun at 66!

DAY 37 Taoyuan International Airport-KIX

On the morning of my return home, I packed up my tent and packed my bags.  Afterward, Kanae and I had a lively conversation about our trip, and Miyuki arrived.   We walked through the shopping district again and even Miyuki bought some souvenirs, and finally, just before 10:00 AM, Uber car arrived.  I said goodbye to everyone and headed to the airport.  With some time before departure, I wandered around the airport, reminiscing about my fun days in Taiwan and coming up with various plans for when I return to Japan.  I checked in just after 1:00 PM and boarded AirAsia flight D3778 just after 3:00 PM.  How fast! DAY 37 George Town (Malaysia)

In the morning, while it was still cool and there were few people, I strolled around Georgetown. I saw street art, visited mosques and temples, bought a tart, and returned to the hotel. As expected, being a tourist destination, there were many tourists here and there. It seems that Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and George Town are the most popular tourist spots in Malaysia. It felt like a considerable number of tourists were flocking here not only from other Asian countries but also from Western countries. There were also many cafes and restaurants catering to tourists. Nevertheless, thanks to its tourist attractions, the city was vibrant and stimulating. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, there are buildings that exuded a sense of history, as well as many colorful houses and shops that we wouldn't see in Japan.
