DAY 34: Yenişakran – Aliağa (Turkey)
On Day 34, I woke up at 5:30 AM.
It looks like a strong tailwind from the north will be blowing again today.
I plan to reach Menemen, though I haven’t settled on a place to stay yet.
There are a few small towns along the way, but lodging options are limited.
Embracing the unexpected is one of the true joys of travel.
Whatever path I choose, I’ll trust that it will turn out for the best.
May the world be at peace today…
Breakfast at 7:00 AM.
At 7:40 AM, I set off just as the sun rose, heading south on the D550.
Another clear, sunny day. The wind is cold, but the sunlight feels warm.
Living, running, traveling… I’m truly living the best life!
Aliağa itself is a resort town along the Aegean Sea, with a fair number of shops and places to stay.
Once past the city center, the atmosphere shifts completely.
With cement factories and quarries nearby, dust swirls in the wind. The road shoulder is covered in sand, which causes my tires to sink and makes the handlebars hard to control.
Finding a place to stay is a bit tricky today. There are budget-friendly options in Aliağa, but that would only mean a short ride (20 km). Menemen is about 45 km away, but it doesn’t seem to have any affordable lodging.
I decide to check out a place I spotted on Google Maps near the southern edge of Aliağa.
It’s about 600 meters off the D550, but that’s no problem.
Around 1:30 PM, I check into "Dream Farm Pansyon"—located 13 km from Menemen and about 40 km from the city of İzmir. My total distance for the day is 28.5 km.
The guesthouse is run by a married couple who welcomed me with warm smiles. To my great appreciation, they lowered the price from 3,000 liras to 2,500 liras—and on top of that, they’re providing both dinner and breakfast!
They even served Turkish coffee and cream-filled doughnuts as a welcome treat—absolutely wonderful!
I could have pushed on to Menemen, but I’m heading toward the city of Izmir tomorrow anyway.
I finished my ride early, took a shower, and am now relaxing. There’s a refrigerator, a way to boil water, and a nice, warm shower.
When you get too comfortable with these modern conveniences, you start to lose that "wild" edge.
Distance traveled today: 28.5 km
Total distance from Istanbul: 779.6 km
